Kawa Ijen Volcano Trip

You can access Ijen Volcano from Pemuteran with the following itinerary:

Departure is at 11:00 PM by car towards Gilimanuk, which is a 30-minute drive to the harbor for crossing to Java Island, a journey that takes between 30 to 60 minutes. Upon arrival on the other side, a driver will be waiting to take you up the mountain to the parking area, the starting point of the trek. The parking lot is at an altitude of 1800 meters, while the volcano caldera sits at 2800 meters. The ascent covers approximately 1 kilometer in altitude and typically takes around 2 hours.

You’ll need a medical certificate, which can be obtained from a local doctor in Java (included in the price), a flashlight, and a change of clothes as the ascent can be long and may leave your clothes damp. Once you reach the summit, it can be chilly due to the wind, so changing into dry clothes is advisable. You also have the option to hike down into the crater. We recommend having a gas mask (included) to protect against sulfuric gas. At the bottom, you’ll have the opportunity to capture photos of the mesmerizing blue flames caused by ignited sulfuric gas.

After ascending back to the crater rim, you can wait for the sunrise before beginning your descent. It typically takes about 1 hour to return to the parking area. Enjoy a snack and coffee before preparing to drive back down. You’ll take the boat around 12:00 PM back to Bali, arriving at your hotel around 12:30 PM.
